I love a good chocolate chip cookie. And my mom’s chocolate chip cookies are just that. They’re not your typical soft and chewy cookie, but rather a buttery, crispy cookie that gives you that right amount of snap when you take a bite. They’re perfect for dipping in a warm cup of tea too. The warm liquid makes them melt in your mouth. This recipe is versatile as well. You can add oats, chopped nuts, other baking chips. But I always just add chocolate chips. It’s my favorite.

So let’s get started!

You’ll need a stand mixer, measuring cups and spoons, a cookie scoop and a baking sheet for your equipment. For your ingredients, grab flour, sugar, light brown sugar, baking soda, cream of tartar, an egg, milk, vanilla, shortening, vegetable oil and salt. Oh and you can’t forget the most important ingredient, the chocolate chips.

First you want to add to your mixer the sugar, light brown sugar, egg, milk, vanilla, vegetable oil and shortening. Beat until mixed well.

Once you’ve mixed your ingredients, the dough should look like this:

Add in the rest of your dry ingredients: the flour, cream of tartar, baking soda and salt. I added those ingredients to a bowl first, then poured it into the mixer, but you can add each ingredient separately. Mix well.

Once the dough has been mixed, it’s time for the chocolate chips. Using a spatula, fold the chocolate chips in by hand.

Once all the chocolate chips are incorporated, it’s time for baking. Using a cookie scoop, place each cookie about 2 inches apart on a baking sheet. Bake in your preheated oven at 350 for 10-12 minutes until lightly golden brown.

Then enjoy!

These are my all time favorite cookies. My mom used to bake these all the time when my brother and I were growing up. We used to host a holiday tea party with our elderly next door neighbors and this is the best cookie to enjoy with a hot cup of tea! Uncle Whitey and Aunt Lizzie’s favorite! I even used them for the cookie bar I had at my bridal shower.
