September starts the season of apple picking. One of the perks of apple picking, is the sweet aroma of freshly baked donuts after a morning or afternoon of walking through the orchards! I have only been apple picking a few times in my life and I’ve always looked forward to having one of those warm donuts. This year, apple picking is a little bit different for many of us, so I thought why not try and bake apple cider donuts at home instead. I can’t bring the orchards to my backyard, but I can bake the warm donuts in my kitchen instead!

These apple cider donuts are absolutely delicious. Moist, slightly dense and full of apple flavors. Plus these donuts are baked, not fried! Simply use these donut shaped baking sheets and you’re good to go!

You can enjoy them plain, dusted with powdered sugar or my favorite, covered in cinnamon sugar! The cinnamon sugar gives it a crunchy texture with every bite! Sweet and scrumptious!

These donuts pair perfectly with a cup of apple cider garnished with a cinnamon stick as well. The perfect fall dessert or snack for that matter!

Scroll down for the recipe below! You won’t be disappointed!

Prep Time 10 minutes mins
Baking Time 10 minutes mins
Servings: 16 donuts
Course: Dessert
Cuisine: American
Ingredients Method

Ingredients

  • 1 egg
  • 2/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup apple butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 1/3 cup apple cider
  • 1/3 cup plain yogurt (I used plain nonfat Greek yogurt)
  • 2 tbsp canola oil
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp cinnamon

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees and spray a donut baking pan with cooking spray.
  2. In your stand mixer, add your wet ingredients and combine.
  3. Add your dry ingredients to the batter and mix well.
  4. Add the batter to a piping bag and using the bag, pipe the batter into each donut well in the pan. Fill each donut about 3/4 of the way with the batter.
  5. Bake in the oven for 10-12 minutes and cool on a wire rack.
  6. While donuts are cooling, melt half a stick of butter and mix together cinnamon and sugar.
  7. Once donuts are cooled, using a silicone brush, brush each donut with melted butter and dip in cinnamon sugar. Then enjoy!
