As a kid, my mom would always make my brother and I the classic rice krispie treats. This dessert or snack is so easy to make with just rice krispie cereal, some butter and a ton of mini marshmallows. They would satisfy any sweet tooth. So I thought for Mardi Gras, why not decorate these easy treats with some candy melt and sprinkles.

So let’s get started!

First you want to grab your ingredients. To make things easier, I used store-bought rice krispie treats from Kellog’s, but if you have time, make your own! I just pulled them out of their wrappers and placed on a plate for easy grabbing. I melted white candy melt ahead of time as well. In case you don’t have white candy melt, you could use white chocolate too. Just microwave for 30 second intervals until completely melted. And of course, can’t forget purple, green and yellow sprinkles. The traditional Mardi Gras colors.

These are so easy to make, it’s even an easy activity for children too! Any child could decorate a rice krispie treat with whatever candy deocrations you have on hand. Simply dip the rice krisipie treat about half way in candy melt.

And decorate with the sprinkles. You want to do this part fairly quickly after dipping the treat because the candy melt will start to set.

Once you’ve decorated your rice krispie treats, place on a cookie sheet and refridgerate for 20 minutes or until the candy melt is set. Then enjoy!

These are easy grab and go treats at any age.

Serve these at your next Mardi Gras party, your guests won’t be disappointed!
