Who loves hot chocolate? Especially hot chocolate on a cold, snowy day while watching Christmas movies? This girl right here does! Yesterday, we got about six inches of snow and I have to tell you, I loved just being home, cozied up on my couch watching Christmas movies. The only thing missing was a warm cup of hot chocolate.
I can remember as a kid after playing outside in the snow with my brother, we would come in and enjoy a cup of Swiss Miss hot chocolate and watch The Wizard of Oz. Now I know that the Wizard of Oz isn’t a Christmas movie but it was one of our favorites growing up and one of the traditions I’ll always cherish.
Now Swiss Miss hot chocolate mix is good and convenient, however, I have a much better recipe that I found on Pinterest. Last year when we were going to be hosting the Christmas party for my friends, I wanted to serve homemade hot chocolate. So I searched high and low and came across this recipe from Kami at No Biggie blog. The best part about this recipe is that it’s made in the crock pot! So easy and convenient! And this is by far the best hot chocolate recipe I’ve ever had. I just knew I had to serve it at our Christmas party.
I decided I was going to have a hot chocolate bar for the party. I gathered several different sized mason jars I had for the add-ins and used a two-tiered tray to display everything.
I served the traditional marshmallows and added crushed peppermints, chocolate chips, crushed Andes mints, toffee bits, peppermint sticks, Pirouettes cookie wafer sticks and cinnamon sticks. That way everyone could pick and chose what they wanted to add to their hot chocolate.
To add some detail to the hot chocolate bar, I found these chalkboard labels on Pinterest for free! I love free printables and try to incorporate them in every party I host. They just add that extra special something and show the thoughtfulness you put into it for your guests. I found similar labels on Pinterest here and here. Just grab your computer and printer and your set!
To add the mix-ins to the hot chocolate, I bought these mini wooden scoops off Amazon. They give that rustic feel to the hot chocolate bar and they are so versatile. You could attach them to a homemade sugar scrub jar for a gift. As well as use them around your home.
I tied each label to a mason jar with red and white baker’s twine to give that holiday touch. You can buy baker’s twine anywhere, I believe I bought mine at Michael’s last year for the party but it can be used all year round.
To serve the hot chocolate, I had received these Libbey Kona glass coffee mugs from my registry at my bridal shower, but I found them on Amazon as well. They were perfect to showcase the hot chocolate. And because they are glass, you’d think they’d be too hot to handle, but they weren’t. They worked out perfectly!
You definitely want to make this hot chocolate during the holiday season this year! It’s so creamy and not overly rich, you’ll be going back for more, so make sure to make plenty of it! Perfect for a party of 4 or a party for a crowd! Everyone raved about it and by the end of the night, it was all gone! I should have doubled the recipe!
And it is most definitely the most wonderful time of the year!
