I. Love. This. Time. Of. Year. Period. I love everything about it. The pumpkin spice, the apple cider, the crisp fall air, the leaves changing into vibrant colors of orange, red and yellow. The time being spent with family and friends. I just love it all. I told my mother-in-law, Mary, that I wanted to start decorating even before Labor Day this year. She’s very much into decorating, cooking and hosting as well and she was right there with me. For me, the fall means that the holidays are right around the corner and that is my all-time favorite time of year. But for fall, I couldn’t wait.
I started with our front porch. After all, that is what people see first when they arrive at your house. Every year I love getting fall mums and using those in my outdoor decorations. They are a beautiful fall plant and once they bloom, they are just gorgeous! Our local ShopRite sells them 3 for $12 which I think is a great price, so I bought a few. Quite a few. I had four out front and three on our deck. Yes, I decorated the deck too, just a little bit though, not over the top. On our porch, I used the mums, hay bales, a corn stalk, several pumpkins, two scarecrows and a wagon wheel to add that extra detail. I love the wagon wheel.
While I was surfing on Christmas Tree Shop’s website, I came across a fall ‘Welcome’ sign that I knew I just had to have to display outside. My intention was to hang it on the left side of the door, however it was too heavy to be hung by just a Command hook so I leaned it against the wagon wheel on the hay bale. I think it came out great and was the perfect added touch to my porch.
I didn’t go overboard on the deck. I placed 3 mums on a three-tiered plant stand and placed a corn stalk behind it. I had purchased a decorative outdoor sign last year and placed that in front of the mums. Pretty simple.
Next was my indoor decorations. I love decorating for fall inside my home. I love the warm colors and the smell of my autumn-scented candles burning. It really puts you in the holiday spirit. I used the same decorations as last year, but since I had bought the console table that sits at the bottom of my staircase, I had to decorate that too.
This beautiful pumpkin tapestry table runner I bought at Kohl’s. It was the perfect addition to my coffee table. The floral and pumpkin centerpiece I purchased on sale at Christmas Tree Shop after the season last year. I love buying holiday and seasonal items after the season, these items can be up to 80% off, depending on the store!
The tv stand I decorated with the same items, however, the tree I placed on top of the speaker. Christopher had bought a larger tv this year and the tree would have gotten in the way of the picture. No biggie though, the decorations still came out good.
The console table I really loved. It looked really nice against the staircase with the garland and orange lights. I didn’t overdue the decorations on the table, just went with simple.
In my dining room and kitchen areas, I decorated the hutch, island and of course, my dining room table. The hutch I decorated with a beautiful floral garland and orange lights that I even strung on the wreath I hung. And of course I had to hang up my ‘harvest’ banner.
The dining room table is my absolute favorite to decorate for any holiday. I always like to set the table as well.
The wood box Christopher made and I had a votive candle holder from Yankee Candle that I then stuffed small floral wreaths in. It was an idea that I had seen on Pinterest. I’ve been using it for several years now.
The orange napkins I got on clearance at Michaels. They started with a clearance sale of all their fall and Halloween items a week or two before Halloween. The gold leaf printed salad plates I bought at Christmas Tree Shop. I thought they would be perfect for this year’s tablescape.
The next thing I decorated was my kitchen island. I covered it with a tablecloth, used placemats and settings and placed a centerpiece. The centerpiece I used was a fall inspired tray that I filled with pumpkins, floral arrangements and a plaque.
The placemats and melamine plates were from Christmas Tree Shops and the orange napkins and gold leaf napkin rings were from Michaels – all bought on clearance or a sale.
This year I decided to do something different and decorate a mini bar. I had bought a pumpkin inspired drink dispenser last year that I used during Thanksgiving and really wanted to pull it out of the box this year, so I decided that I would set up a bar. Besides the drink dispenser, I had found these gorgeous pumpkin-shaped Moscow mule mugs at Christmas Tree Shops for super cheap that I wanted to put out on display as well. I set out the gold scroll printed wine glasses from last year along with a stemless wine glass that had ‘thankful’ printed on it and filled it with paper straws. I think my fall bar turned out nice!
Aren’t these mugs just gorgeous? I love them.
And this is my house decorated for fall. I hope you all find inspiration for your own home!
Xoxo,
Katie
