So I know it has been well over a year since I’ve last published a blog post but so much has happened in this past year and a half – I got married!! In December of 2017, my hubby-to-be proposed on the night of my work Christmas party. Totally unexpected and surprising and so worth the wait. At that point in time, we had been dating nine years which is a long time to be dating but as the years went by and we got older, we were just meant to be together. And as many of you know, the summer of 2017 was one of the worst summers of my life. My husband had become very sick and only through continued prayers and support from our loved ones and friends he pulled through. I knew he was my soulmate and I couldn’t bear to live without him so we planned our wedding in seven months and got married on a beautiful day at the end of July in 2018 and the rest is history.
To prepare for our nuptials there was so much to do and not a lot of time to do it. But with the help of our moms, my sister-in-laws and my friends we pulled everything together and it was everything I had hoped for. One of the things I was super excited about were my bridesmaid proposal boxes. It was something that I had seen on Pinterest and couldn’t wait to put together and present to my bridal party. I had even made one for my husband’s younger brother who was going to be his junior groomsman.
I bought wood boxes from Michaels along with wood letters, gold glitter, flower embellishment stickers, card stock and paper shreds. I stained each box brown and then glittered a wood letter of the first initial of each girl’s name and hot-glued it to the lid of the box. I hot-glued the flower embellishments around the letter on the lid as well. I’ll use my maid of honor’s box as an example:
On the inside of the lid I used cardstock and “proposed” to each of my bridesmaids asking them to be apart of my special day:
Inside the box I used brown paper shred to give it some extra ‘oomph’ and placed a framed picture of the two of us, a poem, a glittered champagne or sparkling water bottle and a stemless champagne glass that had an applied vinyl sticker of their name to it. I thought they came out very nice and couldn’t wait to give it to each girl.
The Alex and Ani bracelets I bought from their website. For two of my best friends I gave them a bridesmaid bracelet and the best friend who I asked to be my maid of honor they luckily had a maid of honor bracelet and I gave her that. For Chris’ sisters I have always felt close to them and now that they were officially going to be my sisters, I each gave them a sister bracelet. For some reason on the Alex and Ani website, I can’t find the sister bracelet, so I linked the gift set with a votive candle. The styles of the other bracelets may have changed for the season but I linked them in case any of you were interested.
Chris’ youngest sister, Isabella, is a teenager so I figured I’d make her junior bridesmaid box more young and hip and went with brighter colors and flowers for her box.
We always take SnapChat pictures together so I figured it was appropriate to include a SnapChat photo of us and then of course she received the glittered Perrier sparkling water bottle. Her and Chris’ other sister, Mary Cathryn had poems that were more sisterly than friendly. Because Mary Cathryn, is in medical school and we were seeing her on Christmas I had to scramble to get these boxes for his siblings done, so unfortunately, I couldn’t apply the vinyl sticker until after we had “proposed” to them. But their boxes still came out great!
Nicholas’ junior groomsman box came out awesome! He is a video game fanatic so I thought a box geared towards a spy thriller video game theme for him would be great! It kind of reminded me of a James Bond or Mission Impossible movie or video game and he loved it! On the lid I glued cardstock to it that read TOP SECRET and when he opened the box I had attached his ‘proposal’ to the inside lid.
I filled his box with a photo of him and Chris when we took the younger kids out for a sushi dinner. The photo was taken a few months after Chris was released from Kessler Rehab. Along with the photo I included a bag of Swedish fish, a headlamp and a mini nerf gun which hadn’t made it to the box when the photo was taken.
The boxes were a huge hit and I would definitely recommend making these for your bridal party. They just add that special detail and can make your bridal party feel more appreciated that all that thought was put into it!
Xoxo
