When I was a kid, I always looked forward to going on an Easter egg hunt with my brother and cousins at my grandma’s house. She would fill each egg with either candy or if you were lucky, a quarter. My uncle would hide the eggs all over her lawn and we’d go searching for them to fill our baskets. Once the hunt was over, we’d open our eggs to find our candy or money prizes. It’s always so nice to look back on these memories of childhood.
My husband Chris and I don’t have any children of our own yet, but we do have our fur baby, Zoey. So I thought why not do an Easter egg hunt for her? Instead of candy or money filling each egg, I’ll fill her eggs with mini treats. And that’s exactly what we did. Here’s the supplies we used for our Zoey’s Easter Egg Hunt:
To do this at home with your own fur baby, you’ll need a basket, plastic eggs and the dog treats your pup loves.
Zoey loves these I and Love and You brand treats. I buy them online from Chewy.com and she just devours them. Here’s a link to them on Amazon.
The plastic eggs you want to use have little holes about two on each side. That way your pup will be able to sniff out the treats while searching for the eggs. I bought mine from Christmas Tree Shops, but here’s a link to similar eggs on Amazon.
I broke each treat in half and placed one half inside each egg. Once the eggs were filled, I filled a basket with some paper shreds and placed the eggs inside.
Once the eggs were ready, we headed outside. And of course, no Easter egg hunt is complete without a photo op. I bought these bunny ears from Target’s Dollar Spot along with the banner. It’s hard to read the banner, but it says “Egg Hunt”, perfect for our occasion.
Next, my husband scattered the eggs all over our back yard for Zoey to find.
He trained Zoey to open the eggs and she was able to get every treat!
She had fun sniffing out the eggs and opening them up!
What a great activity this was for her! So easy and fun to do with your own dogs, just grab some plastic eggs and treats!
