Christmas is one of my favorite holidays and I put a lot of thought into my decorations every year. We’ve lived in our house for almost six years now and every year, my decorations become more detailed. One of my favorite places to decorate, besides our tree, is my dining room table. Ultimately, this is where everyone will gather together to celebrate the holiday season, so I pay extra attention here. Some people change their theme every year, but I usually stick to the same theme – rustic. I love rustic anything and mix that in with some plaid, you’ve got yourself a rockin’ tablescape that everyone will enjoy!
My tablescape from last year breathed red, gold and plaid. When I offered to host the Christmas party for my friends, I really wanted the dining room table to scream Christmas and it did. In fact, it was a rustic Christmas at that.
I can fit ten people around my table, it’s a little tight, but it works. On the average day, I just have the table set for six, but with the holidays, I add in the leaf to extend the table to fit ten.
The plaid tablecloth I picked up at TJ Maxx last season. It has gold thread sewn through it to give that extra shimmer. It ties in really well with my plates and wine glasses. It’s 120 inches in length so it fit my extended table perfectly.
The centerpiece I had bought from Kirkland’s. Kirkland’s is one of my favorite stores to shop in for all things decor. They have a lot of rustic, traditional and farmhouse themed items. These all tie in really well together. The gold and bronze colored Christmas ornaments and the glittered berry picks meshed really well together with the gold thread of the tablecloth.
These brown rattan placemats served as the start of the place setting. I layered it with a gold charger, dinner plate, salad plate and finally a red napkin in a silver beaded napkin ring. Each person had a water glass and a wine glass along with a Christmas cracker.
These plates I had purchased at TJ Maxx a few weeks before the party. I really wanted a nice set of plates for special occasions. I had a Lenox set on my registry that I didn’t receive, but I just couldn’t fathom spending almost $200 on place settings for four people. I came across these at TJ Maxx and thought they were beautiful and could be used all year round. TJ Maxx doesn’t sell them anymore or at least I haven’t come across them yet in my local stores, but I did fine them on Amazon. These are the dinner plates and these are the salad plates. You can find them on eBay as well.
If some of you don’t know, the Christmas cracker is a paper tube filled with a funny miniature toy, a paper crown and a joke. You pull both ends to open it up and the little trinkets fall out. It’s an English and Irish tradition that my mother-in-law actually introduced me too. The first time I celebrated the holidays with my husband’s family, she had these at each person’s place setting. They’re a fun activity and I thought it’d be nice for my friends and I to do together.
Stay tuned for this year’s tablescape 🙂
